At ERIBÉ, lace has always been part of our story.
Our inspiration began in the Shetland Islands, where delicate hand knitted lace shawls known as “haps” have been made for generations.
These beautifully intricate pieces were often created for weddings, christenings, and special family occasions,
becoming treasured heirlooms passed down through time.
Some of the finest examples were known as Wedding Ring Shawls, so delicate they could be drawn through a wedding ring.
Inspired by this remarkable craftsmanship, ERIBÉ introduced our own lace styles, including the
much-loved Happs cardigan and sweater.
These pieces celebrated traditional Shetland lace knitting through intricate openwork patterns inspired by nature,
from feathers and leaves to flowers and ferns, all crafted in beautifully soft, lightweight
Merino wool.
Now, that story continues with the new Vaila Lace Collection.
Taking inspiration from vintage Shetland hand knitted fine lace shawls, Vaila is a romantic and nostalgic new design
that follows in the footsteps of our iconic lace garments while bringing something fresh and modern. Designed to resemble delicate
hand knits, each piece is crafted from extra fine, lightweight Merino wool for a soft, luxurious feel.
The collection is named after Vaila, a beautiful and remote island in Shetland, north of Scotland. Wild, peaceful, and
quietly captivating, it perfectly reflects the spirit of this collection.
With Vaila, we are celebrating where our lace story began while introducing its next chapter,
timeless Shetland craftsmanship, reimagined for today.
Available in both a sweater and a cardigan, Vaila offers two timeless silhouettes that can be worn
effortlessly from season to season, combining heritage inspired detail
with everyday elegance.
Gorgeous!
Will it be made in other colors? I’d love a cardigan in white or other pastels in that beautiful lace.
I absolutely love these lacy knits. Especially the olive green one. Something to save up for. I’ve already got fairisle gloves and scarves.
